Mrs. Klaasen graduated from Calvin College in 1999 and has completed a large portion of a masters program at Grand Valley State University. As a part of her education, she spent a month in Southern India studying the ecology of the Indian tropics. After graduating, she spent four years teaching high school science at Valley Christian High School in Los Angeles, California.
In addition to teaching in the classroom, she also led a group of twelve to fifteen students to Costa Rica over two summers to study in the field of ecology. Mrs. Klaasen moved to Grand Rapids in 2003 and taught for another four years at Gateway Middle/High School where she again taught high school science but with a more academically challenging group of students. She enjoyed working at both schools and has a passion for working with high school students.
Along with high school teaching experience, Mrs. Klaasen enjoys the sport of tennis. She played tennis for Calvin College and coached the South Christian Girls Varsity tennis team during her college years. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and two children with whom she enjoys traveling, hiking, sports, games, and playing guitar.
