Mr. Fey graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Psychology. In 2020, he earned his Masters in Educational Leadership from GVSU.
Mr. Fey has engaged in mathematics education research throughout his academic career. In his undergraduate, he designed and conducted an HRRC approved questionnaire and analysis on mathematics education and the kinds of culture and expectations that produce high achievement in the classroom. The results of this study have molded his views on education as both a partnership and an adoption of responsibility – high expectations lead to achievement if proper motivation and genuine caring are present.
During his graduate coursework, his Masters Project focused on the teaching gap that exists in mathematics education and the proposed solutions of exposing students to mathematical literacy and speaking skills. Talking about, and writing about, mathematics are strategies that he encourages his students to engage in daily.
Being hired onto the faculty at West Michigan Aviation Academy in 2010 has been an honor and an exciting journey from the “one-room schoolhouse” to the impressive facility, staff, and student body that WMAA showcases every day.
