Proposed Graduation Requirements for WMAA Students

WMAA will meet all high school curriculum requirements under Michigan state law. It will offer the Michigan Merit Curriculum. A total of 26 credits is required for graduation from WMAA, with the following specific requirements:

Mathematics 4 credits Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, plus one additional math course during Senior Year
English 4 credits English, Language Arts each year
Science 3 credits Biology, Physics or Chemistry, plus one additional science credit
Social Studies 3 credits U.S. History and Geography, World History and Geography, .5 Civics and .5 Economics.
Physical Education and Health 1 credit WMAA will offer High School Physical Education and Health that meets the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements.
Visual and Performing Arts 1 credit Website Design, Digital Photography and/or Videography
Online Learning Experience - The following required courses will contain an online component that will cumulatively satisfy the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirement of 20 hours of online learning: Website Design (l/2 credit). Digital Photography and Videography (l/2 credit), Economics (I/2 credit), and Civics (l/2 credit). Each of these courses will contain a minimum of 5 hours of online learning as defined by the Michigan Department of Education.
World Language 2 credits WMAA will offer at least three years of one or more of the following languages: French, Spanish, Japanese, or Chinese. Spanish will be offered at the school site, with French I and II offered in years three and four of operations. Students will also be able to study additional world languages through the Michigan Virtual School. Language offerings include: American Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese, AP Spanish, and AP French. All world language courses taught at WMAA will follow the Michigan World Language Standards and benchmarks.
Aviation Curriculum 8 credits WMAA will offer three aviation components from which to choose: Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Flight, and Aviation Business Management
Community Service Requirement - All WMAA students must complete 100 hours of community service prior to graduation. WMAA will coordinate community service activities for our
students each semester. Students will be involved in the selection and design of service projects.
